How do I create work axis where work plane intersects curved surface?

I keep running into a situation where I would like to be able to create an edge or a work axis at the intersection of a work plane and the surface of the part.  I figured out a work around if the surface is flat, but I haven't figured out a work around for a curved surface.

How do I create work axis where work plane intersects curved surface?

Or put another way: How do I project intersection of work plane and curved surface onto the work plane in a 2D sketch?

I need to be able to draw a 2D sketch on the work plane, but get a perfectly matching projected line onto the work plane, from the curved surface, at the intersection of the curved surface and the work plane.

The attached jpg shows the intersection in question.  I circled it.

Start a new 2D sketch on that plane and select Project Cut Edges.

Hi,

you can try following steps:

1. Invoke Spit command
2. Without any change in the dialog click to the work plane and then click to the face where you wanna make a work axis, press "Ok"

3. Create new work plane through the edge created by split command ( where you wanna make work axis) and make this work plane perpandicular to the existing work plane

4. Then Invoke "Work Axis" command and click to the both work planes

5. Delete Split feature

6. In "Delete feature" dialog unchceck "Dependent work features" option and press "Ok"

I hope it helps.

Regards,

Martin

I did not know there was such a simple way to project the geometry onto the plane I used to intersect the part.

This worked.  This was exactly what I wanted to know, thank you.

Smiley Happy  Glad you figured out where the hidden Project Cut Edges tool is, I kind of left out that important piece of information.
