Help with Opening files?

Hi,

I'am a beginner in Inventor and new to this forum. Please excuse my stupidity! Can anyone help me? I'am a teacher trying to print my students assignments. When I open up some of the students files I get this message. Than when I continually press Skip it either opens but does not display the contents or else it opens partially showing only some of the contents of the file. I think it has to do with opening the file in a full version after it has been saved in a student version. Is there anything I can do about this? Please find Print Screen attached. Thanks in Advance! 🙂

See imbedded response:

of the students files I get this message. Than when I continually press Skip it
either opens but does not display the contents or else it opens partially
showing only some of the contents of the file.

This is the resolution dialog box that will appear if your
current project search path cannot locate the student files.

I think it has to do with opening the file in a full version after it has
been saved in a student version.

It has nothing to do with the student/full version. The
stiudent software is identical, except that it watermarks all files as
educational version.

Is there anything I can do about this?

Yes. Take my free course this or next month via the web. Pass
the course details along to any other teachers you know where appropriate.

A common mistake for beginners when transferring
files is to provide just the assembly (.iam) file. The part (.ipt) files are
also required or the assembly will be empty. Assembly files reference the part
files, the files are not embedded in the assembly. I'm guessing that when the
students turned in their work, they only provided iam files or are missing some
part files.

Another consideration is Content Center files
(library of standard fasteners and other content). If these are use
they are created in a specified directory and are also required to open the
assemlby. Go to Tools > Application Options > Files tab to determine the
directory.

My recommendation is to have the students use Pack
and Go to gather all required files for an assignment. I would recommend reading
the help for Project files and Pack and Go. Hope this helps.

Except that Pack N Go does not work if the project file search
path is incorrect.... 🙂

Thanks to Dennis (and any others) for offering free training to teachers. Your service is greatly appreciated (and obviously greatly needed).

Hopefully this poster is going to take you up on your gracious offer so he can actually start teaching and not just keeping the chair warm.

Dennis gets the five points, but I've still got
to award JohnDoe two points for the "dude!" comment.

Sadly, not enough teachers are signing iup for the classes. I
can use everyone's help in spreading the word. Strangely PLTW has not even
picked upo on it even though I sent them a press release.

Maybe they are all just too smart to learn anything new....

So, if you know a vocational teacher in your area, spread the
word!
