I have some LeoCAD lego parts which I have exported as a 3ds file. I want to place and use these parts in Inventor. I've tried: importing into AutoCAD, exporting as an iges, importing into inventor and saving it as an ipt file but it doesn't work.
Does anyone know what to do? Step by step instructions would help
Thanks
Dave

I recommend you start over from scratch.
3ds files are coarsely faceted planar surfaces generally of little use other than for reference in an MCAD program.

What do you suppose I do? Should I export it as something else or is that not an option? Is there a way of getting lego parts into Inventor?

Attach your dwg file here and let's take a look at what you have.

Hi pjwilkinson3,
Here are some links that might help:

There are some Lego iPart factories at this link:

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,

Thanks for your quick reply. I have saved a lego 1x1 brick (3ds file) from LeoCAD as a dwg file in the attachment. I hope I did it right!
Thanks very much again
Dave
Take a look at this feature in AutoCAD.
It should be cylindrical but instead is 16 facets made from 2 triangular planar faces each.
I could show you how to get it converted to a solid, but it would still be faceted faces rather than a cylinder.
I have not seen Lego blocks where this feature is not a cylinder.
I would remodel from scratch in Inventor - this part is very simple and would only take a couple of minutes.
Most Lego blocks are of similar simplicity and could be modeled in minutes.

Thanks anyway. Making the brick in inventor would be pretty easy but it may get complicated when it comes to making other parts. I originally got the idea of the import/export thing here: https://sites.google.com/site/krisbase/lego-2.
I'll try another method
Thanks Dave
