I have downloaded and installed the MDT 2009 for Inv 2012.

When I try and import, Inv 2012 is opening AutoCAD 2012 insted of MDT 2009

So I get An error about needing MDT newer than (6)

How do I get the IMPORT option with 2012

to use the MDT 2009 EXE file.

I have changed (FILE OPENS WITH) still had no progres...

Try launching MDT (be sure it is MDT) with no files open. While it's open, try your import into IV. Check the options before okaying the import.

I hace.

I open and have MDT-2009 running in the background.

When I IMPORT Inv-2012 opens AutoCAD-2012 and not MDT-2009

I then get a msg "MDT ver above 6 required" and the file is not imported.

I am on Windows 7 Pro

I have another question? I have imported some step files (Parts) to Inv.

I do not like how they are oriented how do I change the part to sit in the x,y,z the way I want?

This won't be much help if you have a ton of files to convert, but what happens if you open the file in MDT 2009, update everything, save as an MDT 2009 file, then import that file into Inventor?

Sorry, works for me so no help.

On your second question, are you concerned that the parts won't lay right in the parts crib?

Hello kbdmann,

Have a try the following steps.

1. Open MDT2009.

2. Open the MDT file in MDT. Verify it can be opened correctly.

3. Close MDT.

4. Open Inventor 2012.

5. Invoke the command "Inventor Icon | Open | Import DWG".

6. Select the MDT file in the file open dialog. Click Open button.

7. Inventor will detect the file type automatically. Verify the radio button "Mechanical Desktop File" is selected in the "DWG/DXF File Wizard" dialog.

8. Click the finish button.

Expected Result: The MDT 2009 will be started during the translation and file can be imported correctly.

If the steps above don't work, then

9. Close Inventor.

10. Run "c:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2012\Bin\inventor.exe /Install"

11. Repeat the steps 4 to 8

Hope it helps.

After Step 2 above, it might also help to Save the file while you have it open in MDT, as kstate92 mentioned above.

I was having the same problems kbdmann was having. I had followed all of the steps in the readme file that was with the MDT 2009 for Inventor 2012. After following the steps from Jeffrey Sun, especially step 10, it now works. Please note that step 10 is different than that in the readme file with MDT 2009 on the Autodesk website. It seems to be a key step in making this version of MDT 2009 work with Inventor 2012. Hope this helps others who are having this problem.
