Help creating wires

Hello,
my name is udi and i am new to autodesk,
I have been learning how to use autodesk as part of a course i am taking in university and i need some help,
i am trying to create a crane as part of a final project and i am trying to add cables to the crane, i tried looking up information cables it and could not find anything basic enough since i can not even find how to view the cable and harness toolbar or determine if i need to download/buy a special add on,
can someone please give me some guidance or at least explain the basics to me about cables.
thank you udi

p.s
i am using Autodesk Inventor Professional 2008

Cables in the Cable and Harness tools refers to electrical wiring. I think you want a twisted wire rope cable for your crane, but not sure. While you could use the routed system tools I think it would probably be far easier to simply Sweep a circle for your cable.
Can you zip and attach what you have so far?

Hi Happyudi,

Inventor Professional 2008 includes Cable & Harness add-in.

Please make sure Cable & Harness add-in loaded before you use it. You can
check it in Add-In Manager.

Start Menu->All Programs->Audodesk->Autodesk Inventor 2008->Tools->Add-In
Manager
or Open Inventor Professional 2008->Tools->Add-In Manager

You can use the getting started document for cabling module.

...\Inventor 2008\PSS\AI_RoutedSys_2008_GetStart.pdf

You can also find other information in help systems, like show me animation,
advanced productivity document, etc.

Thanks,
-Haipeng (Autodesk)

Hi udi,

If you're using Autodesk Inventor Professional 2008, Cable & Harness is installed by default. You can go to "Tools->Add-ins" for a double check, "Routed Systems: Cable & Harness" should be there and loaded.

You can use the getting started document for Cable & Harness module,
...\Inventor 2008\PSS\AI_RoutedSys_2008_GetStart.pdf

Thanks,
-Nicolas

Hi Josh_Petitt,

Cable and Harness module includes "Cable" object, you can use it to
represent the twisted wire cable.

Thanks
Haipeng
