Help!!!! ASAP!!!!

I'm in a major bind and need help!
I've got a client that needs some parts updated and to him by Monday. These parts were done by another contract house and they can't be reached at this time.

The problem I'm having I'm sure is fixable, I just don't know how.

We have parts (models and related detail sheets), they are at their current revision level and I need to update them to the next revision. There's where the problem lies.

Parts are filed as 123-A ("A" being the rev level) so I have 123-A.ipt and 123-A.idw. If I do a "save as" on the 123-A to a 123-B and do the same to the detail sheet, I can make all the chenges I want to the model but the detail sheet's views are all still looking at 123-A's model thus I get no updates.

First, how is this done and mostly, how do I break this "link" or at best, redirect it to look at the new revised model?

Please post your answers here on this newgroup or send them to:

Thanks

It is maybe time to look into the Design Assistant.

I've done that, nothing to be done there...I've tried everything I know (which may not be much, but hey).

Let me explain better.
I go into Design Assist for the .idw and I know that one should see and be able to pull down the tree to view the .ipt file, but not in this case. I can do it for the original file but I don't wnat to break the link there...or do I?

Have a look at the thread "Revise a part, copy the idw", from 11/28. Just
what you want to know, I think.

Maybe I'm straying here, but....

The way I would handle revisions:
I would always keep the original files as the latest revision. If needed, I save the older revisions with another filename: the latest is always 123.idw, while the older revisions are saved as 123-a.idw etc.

But my preference is to document revisions with "ststic" pdf-files. When a design is released, save a pdf-file of that revision. keep working in IV, and when releasing a new revision, make more pdf's.
That way, there is no problem with parts updating old idw's. In R6 there is a possibility to defer updates of idw's, but I believe pdf's are more reliable.

Maybe this could work for you??

As a sidenote, to get back to a certain point of a design (idw, ipt and iam) you would need a PDM-system that support this.

Hope this helps, Jorgen

If you have already done your "save copy as" and
just want to get the drawing to read the new model, all you have to do is rename
the old .ipt so something else, then open the new drawing and resolve the link
that comes up.  Point to the new .ipt.  Save the drawing and you can
then rename tha old .ipt back to it's original name.

Thanks Gary, That seems like it may actually work.
