There was a pretty good paper published awhile back in the World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology 18 2008.  It described several different modeling methods.

Here's a link to the paper.

Are you using Inventor 10 or are you really using Inventor 2010?

This cylindrical cam tutorial (there is a Cylindrical Cam tool directly in later releases of Inventor) along with the previously posted link might get you started to a solution.  Attach your file and cam specifications here if you get stuck.

This is a more general method that might be adaptable to your need rather than the built in tool in later releases.

A lot has changed in Inventor since this was written - there might be a better way in current release.

Attach your attempt here if you get stuck.
