FX500

Anyone using this card yet? I have been speced it on a Dell Precission Workstation 360. It sounds pretty good to me, but what do other people think?

We just purchased 3 of these from Dell about 2 months ago - Get the P4 3.06 with 1 GB of the RD Ram and the Quadro 900 Video Card and you will have 0 problems with Inventor!

To add FX1000 with a Dell purchase, you pay
about $400+  more - why FX500 ???

The performance for the FX500 is not much better
than Quadro 4 700GXL as seen in the Nvidia website. You may be in a better
situation with 750GXL, 900GXL, or 980GXL since they may be much cheaper. I am
using FX1000 for my machine and it is by far the greatest card I have ever had
since Fire GL2 first came out and I know that they (edited) now with Inventor but
wasn't with MDT back then. I have two workstations that work well with
Inventor and they have 700GXL, and FX1000 card.

Unfortunately this package is not offered with Quadro 4 750,900 or 980, or i would have gone for one of them. The 2 options are the FX500 or the FX1000. I am in the UK and the upgrade to the FX1000 is £520 ($830ish) and for a part time CAD home workstation, i cant justify spending that much on a graphics card. I am guessing that the FX500 will be a big improvement over my TNT Riva2!!!

Thanks for the opinions thou guys

Yeah, good luck and please let us know how you like
the FX500 if you get it. You will love FX1000 but it is pretty
pricey.

Any feedback on this card yet?

Colleague is specing a DELL (against my
recomendation) and needs to choose between the FX500 and FX1000 which is A LOT
more expensive.

I installed an FX500 two weeks ago. In the modelling environment, I
can't tell the difference between it an my previous card, a Gloria
III. In .idw's, It seems much faster in zooming and panning and view
creation/resolving.

I bought it because it was about 1/3 the price of the FX1000 and about
1/2 the price of a 980XGL. The cheapest price I found for this card
was at ATAcom.com

Work: Nvidia 900XGL, 2.8 Xeon, XPpro

Home: Nvidia FX500, 3.0 P4, XPpro

The FX500 card seems slower than the 900XGL in
large assemblies, but not a by a huge margin.  The FX500 is a pretty good
card, considering it's price.  It is much faster than my previous Quadro2
pro by a long shot.

No reliability issues.  Buy it if you cannot
afford one of the other cards.

Anthony.
