Friday Pictures 10-3-2014

Ok, issueing a bit of a challenge this week to see if others (especially other software) can make a better picture.

I've been playing with glas transparancy in ShowCase and got to this level:

glas.jpg

And i believe it can be done better, so i'm attaching the model (IV2014) for anyone who want to give it a go.

(also interested in other projects, show off people!)

Have a great weekend!

No worries Mark, hope you'll take the challenge with your software though. 😉

Hi,

All ways enjoy seeing other poeples great work, so heres my Fridy upload.

It’s a screen capture of a work in progress project I am working on at the moment,

just trying to integrate an upgraded door open system.

Bit more to do to it yet.

Cheers

Was trying out the Luminous setting. Took about 200sec. on the Good Ray Tracing

Just add the glass ipt in a my old Showcase scene, (which had already some light, objects, focal lenght, deep of field, etc) some adjust to glass material and then raytraced for 7 minutes.

Materials in Showcase (most of them) are effectively amazing from the moment you will assign them.

Nice setup!
You're right about the stock materials, though i had to tinker with the "thickness" to get the contents of the glass to show properly.

What is up with the naked guy holding the dog and the stump. If that was my neighbor I would have to call the police!

Hi Neils,

I did a quick render in my lunch time of the wine glass.

I would like to have set the resolution better but it would not have rendered in time.

All settings "straight out of the box" using Vred.

Very nice, any problems with the "fluid"?
(I had to scale it down a little in ShowCase because of interference.)
Your Vred renders are all pretty impressive so far!
Guess 3DS max should be able to produce something similar, but with more setup...

Hi Neils,

There is a little trick for rendering liquid in a clear glass container.

If you have 2 surfaces touching (zero thickness) you get the checkering effect where the computer tries to show both surfaces at the same time as it does not know any different.

(Pufft – aye, computers do exactly what you tell them to do, not what you want then to do)

The best effect so far is to offset into the glass a little.

This gives a nice “fall-off” between the edge of the glass and the liquid inside.

Give it a go with showcase and see the difference it makes.

Hmm... so you're scaling up, guess it comes down to the same basic idea: don't let surfaces touch.
Thanks for confirming that this is probably true for all rendering. 😉

yes, for me to, touch with some material and light ..a flicckering effect.

Sometimes the HDR enviroments, material and lights allow touching with no enormeous problems visive effects.

This set: 2 materials, both from Showcase Materilas Library, no scaling

It would need a little more works on shadows.

Hi,

I set a better resolution (6000 x 3000) for this pic, still not really happy with the fall off at the edge of the wine glass.

Maybe need to experiment with glass thickness to off set ratio of the wine into the glass to make it look better.

The index of refraction for glass and liquid looks spot on and mapping bitmaps is a breeze to use. Just wish i had

more powerful Pc.

Any of you guys using Vray or Mental ray for Max?

Cheers

Mark
