I wanted to add a racket to the ball.

I know this may be a big request, but to help the rest of us that are still learning studio would you be able to post the setting that were used for lighting and style.

the indicated area of the racket.

I'm also beginning to wonder if the reflection of
the ball is correct - would I be able to see the text which would be above the
horizon edge of the ball as viewed from the plane of reflection.

 

I'll need to ask somebody here about
that...

It's the bottom part of the frame.
The racket is invented, I actually ignore how a real racket is made. (-:

I sketched a little self-explaining drawing. The red lines are the
directions of real and reflected points.
They seem to be inside the angle of view (grayed).
Take into account that the shot is made from a point of view very
close to the plane of reflection.

Nothing mysterious.

I created a new style, I applied a bumpmap as showed in the attached
image.

For the lighting I just used one of the presets, as showed in
attachment (styles are translated, but I think you'll find it in your
localizazion). Anyway lighting is not so critical.

Come on MarcoA. A person with your mad skills? I would have expected to see a slight deformation in the strings of the racket. 🙂

I asked around and the feeling here was that the reflected light bounces
from a point about mid-way between the eye and the object, allowing the
decal to be reflected.

Instead I expected that a little error on the top of the long strings
was noticed (See attachment).
Strings are all made of rectangular and circular series of just one
(!) elementary sweep (see tennis_04.jpg) and a final sweep, so it
seems that I made wrong calculations...
