Friday Pics

I'm jumping the gun a little on the Friday Pics. This is my first image post
as I can't post any of the equipment we design at work for confidentiality
reasons. Here's a few test renderings I made at home using a well known
Inventor sample assembly.

Andrew:

As an avid photographer, I have to say that anyone with a great camera,
a lot of experience and a terrific studio would be hard pressed to match
your renderings.

Very nice!

Thank you Richard. I appreciate your compliment.

This is an Inventor model, but I must admit it has not been rendered using
IV Studio. I have used the newly released 3ds Max 9 which employs the
integrated Mental Ray 3.5 rendering engine to create these images. I have
not had the chance to play around with IV Studio much. I know it uses Mental
Ray as well and I'm curious if it allows the flexibility 3ds Max allows to
create images similar to this. Beyond the materials used, a large factor is
setting up the enviornment which consists of no lights, but rather
image-based lighting using HDRI images. This creates the reflections and the
overall 'feel' of the lights and shadows.

Thanks again,
Andrew Pawelski

Nice work and fine result!
Question - Materials and textures for surfaces of details you appointed in the 3dMax?

Very nice 🙂

Here's a nice cup of tea 😛
(there was some topic about how someone would go around making a spoon a few days ago, so i tried that and made a nice mug to go with it)
This one is rendered in IV studio 😉

Ah yeah, that was the thread...
I don't think he'll have much use for it though, unless he got that IV11 student version...

here's that same cup of tea with those ambient lighting settings from the recent topic...
Proves that it doesn't work that well for everything...

Hey andrew, would you humor me and render my cup of tea if i post the files?

Your pictures look really great and now i'm wondering how 3dMax would handle the refraction... 🙂

In your lighting style was shadow quality set to high?
Did you render with High antialiasing?

I changed the setting to what was said in that topic.
But to also answer your questions, yes shadow quality was high as was the antialiasing...
Quite a difference huh?
