Frame issue

okay, I designed a frame using a skeleton sketch and the Inventor frame design tool. Worked perfectly but now the customer has changed the design, specifically the height. I copied the files that were going to be affected by the changed to a sub folder and changed the names to include the revision letter. BUT when I change the revision file the original file changes along with it. I've changed everything I can think of, from the file name to parametric name to the iLogic names. If there a way to "disconnect" the files from one another?

I assume you are not using Vault and copied your files using Windows Exp.   If yes you may want to try copying your model (to a new one) using the Inventor iLogic Design Copy Utility.   This utilty can be found on the Tools ribbon tab when there are no files open in Inventor.

No, I am not using Vault and yes I just copied using Windows. I will try your suggestion.

That's not working, it's coping reference files I don't need and giving me the same problem

In frame generator, Inventor automatically creates two additional files and all frames reguire them in order for frame generator to work.  One is called the frame assembly and the other is the frame reference model.   So you have to make sure you are copying all the necessary files in the iLogic Design Copy Utility.   Meaning you would need to copy your skeleton, your actual frame assembly and these two ref files.

That's what I did the first time, but because the ref files are for the original skeleton and assembly they are remaining linked to that one as well. I even tried renaming the files, that didn't break the length either.

If you are not using Vault - look into using the Design Asssitant.

As you have found, you cannot (or should not) use Windows Explorer to rename files.

I haven't tried with a Frame Generator assembly, but Pack and Go might be another option.

Seconded on JD's comment.  I've used the Design Assistant multiple times on Frame Generator assemblies and haven't had any issues with the copied files.

As I've had problems with Inventor searching for and finding files with the same name from previous jobs, I add our company project number prefix to any newly created files.  Just a thought to help.

Would using Vault prevent this from happening?
