Frame Generator w/ Same Parts

Hi,

Frame Generator is a feature that I am excited about. I look forward to
using it quite a bit in R11.
I have a problem/question though:

When parts of the frame are exactly the same, they exist as different part
files which makes sense the way frame generator works. How are we supposed
to handle this in partslists though?

Also, my steel parts have the same part numbers no matter the lengths I use
so I use the "Legacy Parts List" because I do not want parts with the same
number rolling into one.

Also, I never understood how the stock number property is intended to work.
If I substitute stock number into part number when exists, it still rolls up
the lines based on the part number.

Maybe someone could shed some light on these issues.

Rob

Hi Rob

The Frame Generator is a good function, but Autodesk have not thought about the process of part information when you use steel frame structures, ie stock number, part number, description, material grade etc. This problem relates back to the way the steel members are arranged within the data base. What we need is a method to modify the data base in how the information can be displayed.

Hi Gary,

That is what I thought. I think framegenerator is a huge time saver but if
the partslist issue cannot be cleared up, that is going to be a huge
problem. The shop is not going to appreciate a partslist with the exact
same part appearing in multiple lines. Hopefully Autodesk has an answer for
this.
