Flow simulation and data recording with Autodesk product?

I've been using Inventor for quite a while now, and there's some work I'd like to do that I could ideally adapt to inventor assembly or part files.

I'm an applications engineer and work with diesel-powered generators, and I'd like to do some virtual analysis/flowrate simulation, specifically with respect to intake ports, etc.

I looked through Autodesk's extensive product line, but couldn't honestly make out what each can do as far as actual analysis/data taking vs. pure visualization. Between fancy names for product capabilities and vague descriptions, I could use a little help. Does Autodesk offer any software that could be used for this kind of work? Thanks in advance,

Michael

Hi Michael,

Autodesk Algor can do flow visualization via CFD. Here is an intake manifold I'm designing for an inline-6 cylinder engine. It is just steady-state and a non-changing mesh.

If you really want to model the intake and exhaust valves opening and closing, then you would need the mesh to change dynamically (volume and shape changing with time). If you need that, I'm afraid that we may not have what you're looking for (I'm not 100% positive on this the Algor team would be able to answer your questions). {color:#c0c0c0}I've heard FIDAP or Star-CMM+ can do it.

CFdesign has been Autodesk's Preferred Industry Partner for this exact type of application for quite a few years.. Inventor geom can be opened inside CFdesign auto, the setup is super easy and results visualization is really solid.

Take a look for yourself..
