I think I did your 2nd recommendation. I sketched and cut inward then sketched the inside and extruded inward. It looks perfect now.

I purposely made it highlight so you could see where the issue area used to be.

This is somthing I'm looking to patent so I wouldn't want to upload it.

I am fully aware of what your image depicts.

My concern was the apparent lack of a blend above that, but without zoom on that area it is hard to tell if that was as intended.

Oh no that's already zoomed in a lot so it's pretty well blended in.
