The business hard-drive crashed and we were able to recover a lot of files but the Inventor files will not open. The older AutoCAD DWG files open just fine, however none of the IPT files will open. We get an error stating "The database in” + pathname + “could not be opened". Is there any way to repair or open all these files? I attached one drawing as an example.
I'm sorry to hear that your Disk Drive crashed.
The file you attached will not open and there is no way to fix the problem.
Please say you had a Backup that you can Restore from?
Jon.
Mark,
Welcome to the forum.
Not sure what version you are running, but try the suggestion in this thread and see if it helps you.

Any chance you are running Vault or have some other backup in place?

We have 2014 installed today. Is there a repair tool in this version? I looked in file, import and I didnt see anything.
My appologies. After investigating further, this looks to be only for imported (foreign) files from other softwares being brought into Inventor that need repair.

I think your best bet is if you had the files backed up the use those.
Unfortunately, if these files are corrupted, they can't be repaired. Unless there is some third party software out there that does it.
FYI, I couldn't open your file either.

We just had the same thing happen. (we have 4 drives in raid and had 1 bad hard drive and when they went to swap in another the second went down and you can only loose 1 at a time in raid)
Luckily its only a few files that seemed to be corrupt..
And any files that were I was able to use the oldversions folder to recover them.
Worst part is "IT" was not aware that backups weren't working for the last 4 months (Microsoft incremental backups won't mount for some reason we can only see the full backup from 4 months ago).. So we were only able to recover files up till April of this year.. Which means anything I've done in the past 4 months is GONE..
