F4 KEY!

The F4 key can be used to spin the model. Does anyone know how to change it so the Ctrl key can be used to spin it instead?

I find my hand obscures the keyboard if using the F4 key and the spincube is no solution... ihave to lift my hand to see the left hand side of the keyboard...may sound trivial but for me it is a pain in the rear end!

if using ctrl key or shift, then you are free to see the whole keyboard....

Currently we do not offer a means to change the
Orbit command keyboard assignment. Many users have found success with a
Spacepilot or similar device.

We have in-house code working with Ctrl-middle
mouse for orbit, which we hope to release in the near future.

We have reserach on allowing more standard
assignments for the other function keys as well, such as F2 for rename while in
a text field or the browser.

Kind regards,

Pete

I used to map F4 to one of my extra mouse buttons with the mouse software. it worked well. Now I have a space pilot.

I am having trouble posting a 175kb Zip file, but
if you can get access to Windows Server Tools that is shipped with all
Win-Server software, there is a utility call: "RemapKey.exe" that will allow you
to remap your keys.

Ctrl is used in many other functions like deselection of
points in Hole feature, etc. This would by itself not be a good
solution.

I would really like to see an option to have the middle mouse button emulate the behavior seen in most other pieces of 3D software (Solidworks, Femap, Pro/E, etc.) where the middle mouse button alone is orbit/spin, middle+CTRL is pan and middle+SHIFT is zoom. These keys are much easier to reach without obscuring the keyboard, and it makes switching to Inventor from other programs easier. Of course, this wouldn't be the default option, but it would be nice as an option nonetheless.

The problem that I have is that I have to constantly switch between Inventor and Femap, and if I accidentally hold down F4 in Femap it results in savings my model a whole bunch of times.

Just my two cents, I use a Belkin n52te F4 mapped to the 'space bar' key, easy. I notice the Shift middle mouse button rotates around the origin, not so helpfull to me.

owww.. I see then i woul suggest to take the button nearest to the one you want.

In my oppinion space bar is a bad choice for orbit anyways because for me it represents repeat previous action.
