Extrudes "too much". Missing something *newbie*

Hi. Just started mechanical engineering, and got a question (its holiday, dont have a teacher.. )

I am going to extrude front/back. Extrude>Intersect > Extents all.

But something is missing; the middle part is also sliced out. What do I have to do to make that stay?
