Extrude new part to cylinder in assembly

I am relatively new to Inventor, using 2008. My goal is an assembly with a short cylinder on the XY plane with slats across to form a baffle. I want each slat (sketched on the XZ plane) to be a separate part. There will ultimately be a cooling tube running through all the slats. I have been unable to get the sketch to extrude out to the cylinder for the elliptical ends. Can't select the inside surface of the cylinder. Is this possible? Thanks.

Can you post what you have?

In order to post here, the file must be zipped,
and under 1.5MB in size. If the file is larger than that, then post the
files at
this location:

You can post the file as is to ftp.interlancentral.com -
month>2007
folder.

Create a network place OR use Internet Explorer to post.

In IE, Select File > Login

username: newsgroup password: Inventor1

or use this link: ftp://newsgroup:Inventor1@interlancentral.com

This is the location that the Autodesk newsgroups use to post large files.

Keep in mind that it is a public site, just like this newsgroup.

Full information is located in the FAQ that is posted here weekly by Kent
Keller.

Let us know in the this newsgroup when you posted it, and the name of your
file.

Dennis, Thank you for offering to look at my issue. The attachment has the sketch (Slat) that I want to extrude to the cylinder, but can't for some reason. Later there would be more slats as separate parts, each to be presented flat with their individual ellipses and other slots.

Copy Object. But personally I would use Derived Components method rather than Adaptive Parts.

Here is a image of the tool.

The alternative method with Derived Component would be to start a new part file. Exit Sketch. Select Derived Component and select your original cylindrical part and set to Body as Work Surfaces. You could create your baffle sketch there or maybe better yet create it directly in the original cylindrical part and derive it as well into the new part to extrude.

Thanks Dennis and JD.I was able to make a bit of progress with the Derived Part approach, but ran into another prob. I think that I am in over my head for the moment I thought I could get this drawn with the current skills I have, but it's alot harder than I thought it would be. I'll keep going on my tutorials. Do you have a hand sketch or a link to what your finished design should look like?

JD, I drew the object in Autocad 2008. I could send you a 2D dwg that shows what we're after. The client wants to see the shape of the slat as well as the shape of the notches where the slat intersects a cooling tube array on the mid-plane of the assembly. I think the attached dwg shows the relationships.

This should get you started. Of course after examining my files you should delete them as they were created with edu version.
The entire project should be easy. Be sure to check the path of that tube as it is too close to the edge in one location unless I made an error.

It appears that the slots will be milled in the baffles - I would simply change the sweep profile for the extrude-cuts in my example to rectangular on one end instead of simply a circle profile to cut the slot.
