Exporting welds along with parts from weldment

Is it possible to export a weldment and include the weld volumes?  I'm attempting to export to an .stl file and the welds are missing in the resultant file.  (Or am I doing something wrong?)  The weldment was converted from a standard assembly file, but the BoM structure was set to Normal, not Inseparable.

You could try shrinkwraping the weldment assembly prior to exporting.

Hope this helps.

An excellent idea.  Hadn't thought of that.

And the bad news: a shrinkwrap produces surfaces, not solids, and will not export to an STL file.

Check this option:

The fourth button will produce all surfaces. Try using the first button like I have indicated.

You might try doing a normal derive instead of a shrinkwrap.

Thanks, Mike.

Tried that, and many other buttons.  No joy.

I did manage to do a workaround by doing the intended derive, then performing lofts & fillets on the derived part to replace all the welds.  Tedious but successful.  It will be nice to see what comes of the problem, as I see it has been "escalated."

Can you post the files here?

Fillet Welds come through on the Derive fine here. Did you use the Cosmetic Weld or Fillet Weld?

They are all groove and fillet welds, nothing cosmetic.

Unfortunately the assembly is a bit on the proprietary/trade secret side.  I'm going to try to replicate the problem with a fudge-file.  If it exhibits the same behavior, I'll upload.

I think you are going to have to Derive to get the fillets and then do your Export from the Derived file.

Yes, and that's where it failed.
