Emboss in assembly

Is there a way I can use the emboss feature in an assembly?

We typically laser mark during final assembly and would like to show that as a step in the assembly instructions.

I typically create a sketch with the text and extrude(cut) in the assembly.

It works fine for flat surfaces, but cannot do it for other surfaces.

The one way I can think of doing it would be creating ipart with text and using it in the assembly.

I would rather not do it this way.  Is there any other way to accomplish this with out altering the components (.ipt)?

Thanks

Without fully understanding the problem, have you tried derived parts?

I know I can use derived parts, but want to avoid doing it.  I do not want to create any new parts.

Hi,

Unfortunately this is not supported currently. However there's a wishlist logged for this functionality #1458661.

I create a sketch in the flat pattern (I'm assuming sheetmetal) that I use for the actual laser programming, and in the drawing I use the retrieve model sketches command to show the etched lines.

Although the emboss command is not available in the assembly features you can create a sketch in the assembly and place text in the sketch. Then you can extrude the text with a cut option. Not as many options as the emboss command but it will do what you want possibility.

I hadn't thought of using the Cut command on text, but I just tried it and it worked perfectly! You obviously can't get raised letters with Cut, but it engraves just as well as the Emboss command does.

It would have been best to start a new discussion thread and Attach your assembly here (only one part needed - can be a dummy part).
