Edit stp.file so I can add dimensions to entire part

I received a stp.file from a vendor and need to add shrink to the file.  How do edit the file?  Also, once the shrink is added I need to be able to make a split mold out of the part.  How would I go about do that?  I should be able to make a block; then cut the part out of the block.  Is that correct?

First you need to import or edit in such a way that you have a solid body rather than composite surface body.

I assume by "shrink is added" that you actually mean allowance for shrink.
Do this with Derived Component with scale.

You can also make the split mold in the derived component.

If you have Inventor Tooling (or Inventor Professional which includes Tooling) this is even easier and you can allow for non-uniform shrink and automated tools for making mold.

What version of Inventor are you using 10? 2010? 2011? 2012? 2013?

Zip and attach your original stp file here.

There is a tutorial at the link in my signature on dealing with STEP (neutral format) files and also a couple of ways to create molds (Ice cube tray (old) and Vacuum (New)).

I have Autodesk Product Design Suite Premium 2012.  I'm not allowed to share my file; do to company policies.  Sorry.
