In 2009 Content Center Editor, set the library view to your read/write
library. Right click on the appropriate category and select category
properties. From there you can browse to an appropriate bitmap. See
attached.

Does not seem to be fixed in 2013. I just tried. "Load alternate image" is definitely greyed out. Library is read/write.

I may stand corrected of course...

Ok then. I stand corrected.

Care to give me a brief procedure? I may be able to troubleshoot my own that way...

I am aslo not able to load alternate images for category properties. Content Center is in the Vault professional and we use inventor 2013. All updates are installed.

Ok,... I've looked at this again in 2013 IV Pro, and danged if it ain't ME proved wrong.  Existing categories, even in a read/write library with full Administrator's permissions, cannot be edited.  Not only the image, but the entire category.  Creating a new category gives you full options, but once it is created no dice.  This includes previously created custom categories.  AND this is not in "Merged View".

And.... here's why.:

I'm going to look into how this can be done from the server using this help page.  If I can figure it out I'll report back.

No, I have one family in the category folder.

I want to move this family into the new correct folder.

How do I do this?

Unfortunately you cannot move items from one folder to another.  What you need to do is republish the item to the correct folder and then delete from the incorrect folder.

This, I think, is already an idea in the Idea Station... to be able to move folfers and familied around in the CC.  Not sure of the idea status, but if you go there you can add your "kudo" to it to help move it along.

Sorry to ask... but what do you mean by "republish" the part? must I use my ipart that I initially made for publishing the first time? And then set up all mappings, etc once again?

Well, I'm not sure what mappings you have, but yes.  Publish the part from the original ipart to the folder where you need it in CC.  Now..... if you have made changes to the family table in CC, that are not in your ipart, there is something you can do there.

Before you do anything else, edit the original family table using Excel.

excel.JPG

Once Excel is open, save the spreadsheet out somewhere that you will be able to get to it later.  Now, re-publish the part from Inventor.  Open and edit the family table of the new family, edit with Excel again.  Then while that is still opened, start a second session of Excel (has to be a separate session, not just a second open file in the same session... I don't know why).  In the second Excel session, open the family table you saved earlier, copy and paste the contents into the new one and save.  Return to CC editor and the family table should be restored.

The nice thing about CC, is that if you screw something up you can always re-publish.  And using Excel, you should be able to restore family table changes made outside of the ipart.  Not saying it isn't a PITA... but catastrophe can usually be averted.  Hey... I may have just written the rough draft for my next blog entry.  😄

But all this workaround just to change the tumbnail on the category folder... well, well...

But thank you again for your help and your good advice, I will follow this procedureSmiley Happy Next publish I know what to do and hopefully make it correct the first timeSmiley Happy

I did some playing around with this yesterday thinking I was going to write a blog entry showing off this brilliant idea.... don't ever think your ideas are brilliant, it doesn't usually turn out well.

While I still stand by the Excel idea for preserving any line items added to a family table after the part has been published, I also found that simply re-publishing the item and pasting in the spreadsheet will NOT preserve column properties.  This is particulary true if there are any expressions in your columns, or if you have columns that were added after the part was published.

So, for moving a family to a new folder in the Content Center (until Adesk makes this a standard feature... nudge nudge, wink wink), follow the advice in the previous post on copying the Excel table and pasting it back in.  This WILL preserve line items and any line item metadata that may have been added AFTER the part was originally published.  But be prepared to check and fix your column headers to restore any information there, including mappings, that has gotten lost.

So much for brilliant, eh?  Smiley Frustrated  Smiley Embarassed
