Edit Extrusion Profile

Sketch1 is the outside profile for a plate. From it I create Extrusion1 and constrain it in an assembly. If I later decide that a cutout is needed in the center of the plate, I edit sketch1 to show it. But when I'm done, I can't "unselect" my original profile and extrude the new shape. The new geometry in sketch1 is hidden by the previous body and I can't unselect that profile.

So I have to delete extrusion1 and start over. When I return to my assembly I have to redo the constraints that were placed relative to extrusion1.

Any help appreciated.

Can you zip and attach the file?

Are you holding the Ctrl key?

Why not just do it the way they would in the shop.
Sketch-1 is your main plate shape, then edit the IPT and add a second sketch on
the top for your cut-out. This way your plate will retain the
constraints.

Try to do your modeling following the same steps as
the shop floor will follow.
