I hit a memory brick wall... I'd like to create a dumb solid from an
assembly, i thought it was possible... Just cant remember how....

STEP or SAT out the model. It'll be fairly stupid from that point on.

Couple of ways...

Save the assembly as a SAT file. This gives you a file with all the
individual parts intact, and if you open it back up in Inventor, it will
open as an assembly, and create a set of 'dumb-solid' part files.

Derive the assembly into a single part file, and break the link with the
assembly. Then you can save as a SAT file, which produces one big solid
when re-opened in Inventor.

Cheers,
Walt

Ah, after Matt's reply I re-read your post and now understand. Yes, bring the assy in as a derrived component and then export the derrived component as a STEP or SAT file to make it a truely ignorant part.

Mark,
You need to make a derived component of the original assembly.

LOL, was wondering when you'd chime in on this. I saw it coming before I typed my first letter in my first reply. I was starting to wonder if you were going to show up or not Sean. Dumb (no quotes) of me to think that you wouldn't. B-)
