Driving A Rotational/Translation mate?

In the attached assembly contains a gear and rack assembly. They are mated together using a Rotational/Translation mate. I have also set up a drive mate on the rack. When I suppress the drive mate and pull the rack back and fourth the gear moves as I would expect.

But,

If I pull the gear the rack does not move?

Furthermore, If I un-suppress the drive mate and drive it, the rack moves but not the gear?

Am I missing something here? I would be disappointed to learn Iventor doesn't support this functionality:(

TIA

Rick

added a tanget constraint and changed the translation distance to 24*PI and it works here in 2012
