Well, it was working yesterday......

What does "RPC server unavailable" mean?
How do I fix it?

Can you send me the file(s) that this happened with? Also the items that you
selected in the wizard. You can send the files to
lisaDOTdarrahATautodeskDOTcom
Thanks

Lisa:

I've got more problems than described in my earlier post:
My main assembly idw was just about completed, and I decided to uninstall AOL instant messenger (AIM) from my computer. As with any install/uninstall, I shut down all progs before starting. Uninstalll re-started my machine...... (well, you know, the normal "need to restart" message.

I started working again, and on a purchased part idw (a cam follower) I have a symbol for describing purchased parts. It's a box with prompted inputs for part #, manufacturer, supplier, and description of the item. I oticed that the text in the symbol wasn't laft-justified as I wanted, so I closed that idw and opened my template fil, to correct the symbol's text. I've a lot of idw's that use the same symbol, so I started the DRTM and attempted to update all the idws in my project. During operation of the transfer manager (and the image I attached earlier shows it was working on the main assembly idw) I got the message.......

Now, when I attempt to open the main assy idw, Inventor quits. The window closes without any message. The IV window just closes. I can open any other part or assy idw..... just not the General Assembly file.

I'm using IV10, and the idw contains 3 sheets.

Scott,
Small world :oD

A few things..
I can open the idw's both the title block template and the main assembly
idw. I am running r10 SP3. However....
1) I open the idw disconnected( skipping the option to resolve the
references) and it opens. If I can have the iam and ipt's I may be able to
look into the problem in more depth
2) I open the title SMB-robo template in r10 with no problem.
3) I use the DRTW using the SMB-robo and applied it to a simple idw I have.
This worked fine with no errors.
So with those results, we need to try to get closer to you actual scenario
I will need the following
1) The iam and ipts as stated above
2) The idw that you are mapping the template idw too using the DRTW
3) I have AOL, what version of AOL. I can uninstall mine and see if I can
reproduce your problem..
4) Do you have any SP's installed for r10

I think that's it for now, once I get all these answers 😉 I can
investigate a little more
Thanks Scott

Lisa:

I've no idea what happened, but I replaced a part in my main assembly, and before re-creating the general assembly I thought I'd give the idw one more try. Well..... it worked!
What a trip. So, for now, all is good.

Thanks,

From one of our developers...
in regards to the RCP error you received..

You'll get this error on the client side of a remote COM procedure call when
the server has shut down (or crashed). My guess is that the DRTW was
connected to Inventor, and Inventor crashed when opening the assembly (just
as he mentions it does through the UI), which leaves the DRTW application
disconnected from Inventor

So the next time you get this message see if the file crashes if you just
open it up in inventor...

Glad to hear all looks good!

How can I restart (or find) the proper COM call?
Is there a service runnning?

Lisa, I just got lucky w/this one......
I restarted my machine bunches of times, I tried everything I knew to get the idw (and/or my computer) working again, and suddenly it just worked.
I'd sure like to know a way to fix this if it ever happens again.
You know me - I don't like leaving things like this to chance.

Thx,

From what I understand.. and I am verifying this with the developer,
"You'll get this error on the client side of a remote COM procedure call
when
the server has shut down (or crashed). "
... My guess is because the DRTW tried to open the idw you chose and it
crashed which will crash the inventor.exe needed for the DRTW. The next
time it happens, check your Task Scheduler and see if there is an
inventor.exe running along with the Drawing resource..EXE. If there isn't,
more than likely the idw crashed inventor. At that point the DRTW has lost
its connection to inventor and DRTW is in a bad state. Check the idw by
opening the idw up in inventor and see if it crashes on its own..

One other suggestion is when you get the Crash Error Report at the end of a
crash. Don't Ignore it or give it bogus info. It really helps us to
determine who the issue came from and what happened so that we can contact
you to try to either get more information or data about the problem if we
cant repro it in house. I know people are leery of entering in a valid
email address but in this case, it can help in the long run.

If I do get anymore information from Development, I will pass it along

Hope this helps
Lisa
