Draw a sketck on top of an imported pdf

Hi,

I am new to Inventor, I read several posts without finding a solution to my problem:

I have to rebuild 3d geometry from existing *.pdf drawings.

What would be the best way to proceede?

I thought an option would be to import the *.pdf in a kind of layer, rescale it and sketch on top of it.

However the pdf importation fails.

Do you know how to import a *.pdf in sketch mode?

Do you have better solutions to propose?

Thank you for your support,

Best regards,

SylvainJ

You could convert the PDF to an image file (JPG, BMP< etc.), then import the image to the sketch.

Then use the image as a guide to create your geometry.

We have done this in the past for certain parts.

However, we have found that it is much faster just to create the geometry without using the images.

But you can try it.

Thank you for your suggestion.

It works just fine !

The fact is that I don't have many space to unfold large drawings at my desk.

With your solution, I'm able to zoom on the drawing and sketch on top of it.

Thanks again

Done this with Autocad, take a good high quality picture with either a large format ruler or have the overall dimension of the object. Bring the picture into a Acad drawing and adjust the scale until it's the correct size. Then draw on top of the picture.

Just insert the picture rather than attaching it as a file

AutoCAD?  or Autodesk Inventor?

The AutoCAD forum is over here http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-2013-2014/bd-p/706

To bring a picture into Inventor start a new sketch.

Place the image, add dimensions size and locate the image relative to the origin.

Exit sketch.

Start new sketch to use the image as reference.

This is the Autodesk Inventor forum.  Autodesk Inventor does not have a command line.

I recommend that you post AutoCAD questions over at that forum.
