Document Settings with Respect to Style Library

Hi All,

If my style library is enabled in project it always refresh defintions whenever i create a document using template and press update the window in sanpshot shows up.

Is there any way to do vice versa - i.e. get all these items updated in style library as per the current document setting.

Regards,

Sajid

Hi Sajid,

If you want permanently overwrite the style definitions from your template file into your style library, follow the steps of point 2 from the blog post below.

http://beinginventive.typepad.com/being-inventive/2011/11/style-conflict-message.html

Instead, if you want to use a different style definitions than the ones from the Style Library but just with this specific template, please apply the steps of point 3 of the blog post.

I hope it helps.

Kind regards,

Alessandro

Hi Sajid,

The link works for me.

By the way, try this one (http://blogs.autodesk.com/beinginventive )

If you can access it, make a search in the blog site for: “Style Conflict message”.

If you cannot access this link as well, I’m sorry, but I can suggest just trying later or from another machine.

I hope it helps.

Kind regards,

Alessandro

Hi Ale,

Thanks alot for being so helpful.

The problem now is if I do as you suggested in point one in your blog "update my template as style definitions" the template get changed (that obviously I don't want).

and

If I do as you sugested alternatively "get my style definitions updated as my template" my other templates (we are multinational company - having different templates for different regions) will show the style conflict message because it contains the defintions from the style library.

What I have understood from this is that I will keep my "use style library = No" insted of "Yes" or "Read Only" (using Inventor 2011). My only reservation is that how me or my team will be suffering by working using these templates under shared project (with use style library = No)

Thanks again for all your help.

Regards,

Sajid Mahmood

Hi Sajid,

You’re welcome.

If I have understood correctly, you have different templates that use the same style standards (same names), but with different settings, from one template to another and also different from the same settings defined for those standards in the Style Library.

If this is the case, of course, the only option is to set “Use style library = No”.

In this way, selecting a template you will use just the styles cached in the document with their settings.

By the way, pay attention to the fact that this option has been removed starting from Inventor 2012.

So, if you want to continue to work in this way, you need to refer to point 3 of the blog post.

Alternatively, if you want to use the Style library, you need to edit your templates, define new different standards names with their own settings for each template and save them to the Style Library, if you want to make them available for each template.

In this way, you should not get any style conflict message even using the Style library opening any template, because the settings of the active standards in it are the same of the settings of the same standards (same names) from the Style Library.

Please, in case, read as well the post below.

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Autodesk-Inventor/Rev-table-coulmn-width-not-updating-from-Style-libra...

I hope it helps.

Kind regards,

Ale
