Dimension style

I can't for the life of me get my Rich's mm[in] dimension style that I made
from and ANSI mm standard and added use alternet units checked and have the
style set to x.x[x.x] as the way I want mm's and in's shown. I have Rich's
(ANSI-mm) as the standard style but can't get the [in] units to show up no
matter what? I have two books and just went through a weeks training so I'm
really new here but need help to do the most basic of things and both books
don't work they fail after I set up my style then say to press a button to
save it but the save button isn't there and it doesn't save when I chose
done. The next step tells me to open a dwg but it only lets me open a
project and I can't change it to DWG or IPT or any thing.

Very frustrating indeed.

Thanks for any help, Rich

When I open project to make my project current then close the project
editor, I then go to open and I can't find a file in the directory that the
files are in. I can go to the directory using explorer and see the files are
there. Why I can't open any file after my project is chosen as a default is
mystery to me. I'm trying to change the dimension style to create my own so
every drawing I open looks the same. The book shows it as being easy but it
doesn't work.

Thanks for the help, Rich

"Project location" of the active Project is the working directory where IV
looks for your files
If the files are there but not showing in the open dialog then the "Files of
Type" filter must be set incorrectly

I think I found the problem but don't know how to correct it. The path I
have set for templates set to my user name\~inventor\templates. But the
files in this directory aren't being updated but the ones under the standard
path are. THE problem is that I have the files under options set correctly
but Inventor isn't using what I have set in tools>application settings>file
tab for default I have set:
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\~Inventor\Templates\Rich's_Metric\

But it's still using the default path of: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor
2009\Templates\Rich's_Metric

So how do I get this straightened out or just use the default path?

Rich

I know just enough about projects to be dangerous, go with Dennis's offer.

Thanks for the offer but I think this is more than I need at this time. All
I'm trying to do is get Inventor to use the dimension style that I modified
but when I follow the tutorial in the book I have it doesn't work because
the paths I put in aren't being used. Can I do repair installation and maybe
that will straighten out the mess I'm in? I've been working on getting this
going and not doing work! Two days to get [in] dimensions to show up isn't
very productive.

Thanks but I don't need projects at this early time with Inventor, maybe
after I get the basics working.
