Dim Qty idea?

Just a thought here.
It would be really neat if there was a button i could click and it adds "2x", "4x" to the dim text. I do so much Ordinate dimensioning, and a lot of them get a 2x, 4x, etc added. Which i have to dbl click and add manually. That takes an awfully lot of time to do.
Anyway, It would be neat if there were a few buttons that could be setup to do that. 1 button adds 2x to a dim. another button adds 3x, etc. And the command should be continuous too. Click the 2x button, then select any/all the dimensions that get a 2x added to them. That would really speed up detailing time.

Here, here. I've been wanted that for ages. I am constantly adding Qty &
"TYPICAL" or "TYP"

I add the Qty to dims during ordinate diemensioning also but only on
non-circular (hole or radius) features.
I got into the habit of creating centerlines for holes/radii inline so I
don't have to remember to put Qty's in dims. Only draw back is the
centerlines sometimes go pink after changes & I have to redo them. Still
easier than doing a bunch of dim qty's though, for holes anyway.

It would be even better if IV knew how many features you were dimensioning
with one dimension in ordinate mode & could autmatically put the Qty in
(with a RMB toggle for auto-on or auto-off, of course).

You could make a dim style that has 2x, etc as a prefix. Then just select which dims you want to change, pull down the dim style menu, and select appropriate one. Just a few clicks that way, and you can change more than one at a time.

Tried that in 9.
That got really messy with all the extra dim styles.

I thought it might.

Oh, and nearly forgot, Most important.
It does NOT work with ordinate Dim set.
Which is what i use mostly.
Selecting 1 dim and changing the style changes ALL of the dim's in that set.

This sounds simple Andrew. Unless…
Are you going to make the qty update?

No, thinking of configurable buttons to quickly add pre-defined text.

Something we've been tossing around for awhile. Honestly, there are bigger
fish to fry, but we have the infrastructure.

I’m sure you are busy. Just as sure that you know people would want a count on that auto ordinate dimension. As sure as you have all the x-y points and could easily count them and add xXX text to the dimension.

Configurable buttons sounds to me like a separate command to add to any dim.

What I don’t understand is why ordinates are given 3rd rate status. When I get a print that’s just a mess of linears I cringe and think how clean the print would be with ords. So much engineered is checked with cmm’s. It’s a very Cartesian world. Geo tolerance works so well with ords.

But people aren’t given the tools to work with ords. I am surprised you provided an auto ord. I’m not surprised it wasn’t complete.

That's a fair point. I know that there's plenty of opportunity to make
improvements to ordinate dimensions due in no small part from feedback from
this group. You're also correct in that quantity counts *could* be inferred
though that's a bit of a slippery slope and not necessarily as easy as it
sounds.

All I can say is use the tools you have to communicate your needs to the
Inventor project managers. This forum and the AUGI wish list are just a few
examples.
