A section view has a single profile, and generally has a depth; either all
the way through the remainder of the component, or user-specified. A slice
(speaking of the separate view command) has no depth, and can have multiple
profiles at defined intervals (think about the drawings you may have seen of
boat hulls). In the options for the section view dialog, there's a useful
little "include slice" toggle, which gives the section a depth of zero,
effectively turning the section view into a single-profile slice view. This
is nice when all you need is to show the profile of the part at the section
line, with nothing in the background cluttering it up.
When you are dealing with a model of an assembly, you can mix and match,
specifying that some components be sectioned, some sliced, and some
displayed in full (ignoring the section line completely). It's not
something that most of us do everyday, but it is a pretty powerful
communication tool when we need it. Under the assembly icon in the browser,
you can right-click on individual components and specify how they will be
displayed.

All,
A general question regards section views in .idws. When I create an
orthographic section view of an assembly, I have the option to create a view
with 'some sliced components' and 'some sectioned components'
What the heck is a 'slice'??
Thanks in advance,
