I am having trouble with DA. When I am in the manage area, if I LMB on a
file the line will turn CYAN. In 5.3, if you RMB on any of the cells, a
context menu would appear allowing you to copy, rename, move, etc. In 6
nothing happens when I RMB. Has this happened to anybody else? It doesn't
matter which cell, whether it is an assembly or part, whether it was done in
5.3 or 6.

Cory,

Are you in a Semi-Isolated environment?
Functionality in the DA is blocked if in a Semi-Isolated setup.

Why? It seems to me that in Semi-Isoloated, DA is still needed, perhaps
even more so but I can see how Autodesk might need to add controls when
it is being used in that environment.

Yes I am in a semi-isolated environment. That is very disappointing. So I
guess I need to make a duplicate project without the semi-isolated switch
and use it from DA? While we are talking about DA, when I am using the find
files at the bottom of the manage window, I pick a part file in the top
window (an ipt that I know has an idw) I click findfiles in the bottom
window, it doesn't matter if i check subfolders or not, I have yet to find
an assoiciated file in the 25+ times I have tried this workflow. I found
this to be the case in 5.3 as well. Am I the only one?

Most of the time when we start a new project, we create many files with informal file names,Piston.ipt, Piston.idw,Compression Assembly.iam etc.. Once the designs are finalized we issue part numbers and drawing numbers and move the parts to the workgroup search paths using DA, changing their file names to their "official" names in the process. If DA is not functional in the semi-isolated environment, how do we handle this workflow? Do we have to rename them using explorer and manually resolve all the links? Doesn't sound like much fun.

Thanks,
Josh

I am going to guess we need to create a parallel project which is not
marked Semi-Isolated. I haven't tried this yet but it would seem
logical to try.

You would have to make sure all files are checked in before doing any DA
edits otherwise things could really get screwed up... certainly this would
be an administrator not a user level approach.

That is one of the reasons that DA is not functional in semi-isolated.
If renaming of a checked out part were allowed, what would happen on
check in?

You do not want to rename a checked out part. Better to do this in a non
multiuser project after files have been checked in.... Somehow this
missed being included in the 50 page doc file.

Why can't it be coded right into DA? Example: da encounters a checked out
file - it pops up a warning similar to the one I get when I open a file
that is checked out by another user.

The way it is now, There are 3 options:

1)don't use DA

2)setup parallel projects without semi-isolated. If I do this I might as
well scrap semi-isolated altogether.

3)setup a project to use DA and put on my HD so I am the only one that uses
it. (this of course means I get to rename, copy and move everybody's files.

YUP.... There are reasons why you can't do it.... I'd go with option 3.

Can you tell me how you can rename the file? This
is something that I was trying to figure out. In DA, I can rename Part number
but not the name of the file. RMB doesn't work in the Name column of the manage
section.

Thanks.
