Design Assistant

How do you rename files already insert into an assembly?

I opened the assembly in DA and right click the file. I expect rename to be
in the Open..,Print, View, Copy Design Properties...,Design Assistant, Pack
and Go, iProperties, and Purge pull down menu. SOL

If I try iProperties, I can change the part no. but not the file name.

There must be a way -- Please help.

Hit the manage button. Then in the action column RMB and rename. Then RMB
the location and change.

Kathy (hope you don't mind Ole) let me hi-jack this thread and ask another
question about DA. I've in the past renamed parts/files with an IAM open
like that. But then the IDW for the assembly gets confused about the renamed
parts/files. I can't seem to see a way to do both the IDW and the IAM at the
same time.

Search for files that reference the assembly in the bottom pane of the DA
(highlight the assembly in the top pane, click the drawing checkbox, and
then Search). Set the Action for the drawing to Update.

Or just open the IDW in DA instead of the IAM.

I've had similar problems with DA in renaming parts. When you rename a part
under the assembly the only link that is preserved is between the part and
that one assembly. What if the same part is used in different assemblies?
I seems you have to open each assembly individually and repair the link.
Same for the .idw of the part. Am I wrong about this?

This feature would actually be useful if it would allow you to simply rename
the part and then update the links to every place that part is used. I'm
still using 5.3 so I don't know if anything has changed in v6.

One way to get around this is to create an assembly that contains all of the
assemblies which use this part, then do the DA on this "new assembly". Then
you can delete this "new assembly".

Another flaw that I have seen is if you have an IDW of the IPT and an IDW of
the IAM that calls the IPT. If you open the IDW of the IAM in DA and make
the change to the IPT, the IDW of the IPT is left hanging (Too many TLA's -
two and three letter acronyms).

Quite. If you select the part in the upper pane, click all four filetypes,
check Search Subfolders, and click the Search button, every file that
references the selected file will appear in the bottom pane. If you make
the Action for each of those files Update, the links in those files will be
updated in accordance with the change in the upper pane.

I am copying an assembly with 430 parts using DA. All the part files have the
prefix 178122, then are numbered accordingly, i.e. 178122001.ipt, 178122002.ipt,
etc. I want the part number to be 190433xx.ipt. Is there a way to do this en
masse? (all at once) I didn't think it was intended to have to manually update
430 file names. (BTW, the assembly has a completely different file name.)

I know I hit New Post this time...anyway...

I am copying an assembly with 430 parts using DA. All the part files have the

etc. I want the part number to be 190433xx.ipt. Is there a way to do this en
masse? (all at once) I didn't think it was intended to have to manually update
430 file names. (BTW, the assembly has a completely different file name.)
