derive part with suppressed features

I have a part with holes that I wish to derive to a part without holes. I use the derive command in a new part and click the arrow button which opens the original part so I can suppress features that i do not want to be derived. This works as planned, BUT, it does not remember the features that are suppressed..... When I go back to the original part and unsuppress it, the features show up in the derived part.... I was hoping it would keep track....
any ideas... or should I wait for in part design references.... (has been on wish list since 5.4..... developer keeps saying it is not needed...)

PS. I know I can break the link.... but then what is the point of deriving it... I would just copy the part and suppress the features i do not want....

Same is true with suppress link to base part....

Running I2008 SP3
