deleting a project

In the open window, under projects, I right click on projects that I am not
working on and select delete. They disappear until I go back into projects
and there they are. How do I get rid of them permanently?

Delete its shortcut in the default Projects folder should do it (look in
Tools>>Application options>>file to see where the Projects folder is)

In Windows Explorer, go to the folder you keep your project shortcuts in (this
is defined in Application Options--->File, Project Folder) and delete the
shortcut from there.
