You have to make a sketch and insert the bmp there. Exit the sketch then
issue the decal command and choose the bmp from the sketch.

1) New sketch (on face of part)
2) Click on "Insert Image"
3) Browser window opens
4) Find bmp
5) Use dimensions to size and constrain bmp on sketch
6) Finish sketch
7) Click on "Decal" command
8) "Image" - click on inserted bmp
9) "Face" - click on face of part as desired
10) Wrap and chain to go around edges and bends

Experiment till you get it - works great!!

When I put the .bmp file in the sketch, the file name is also shown below
the image. How do I get this to not show?

Try this and see if it helps

If you are comfortable editing the registry you can try this. If you aren't familiar with
editing the Registry I would advise against it.

Start the Registry Editor and locate the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\Inventor\RegistryVersionX.X\Translators\
SatTranslator
Create a new DWORD entry named SaveACISVersion and enter a value of 2, 3, 4,
5, 6 or 7. The value you enter represents the ACIS version used when you
export to the ACIS file format:
For example, if you enter a value of 5, an ACIS version 5 file is created
when you export to the ACIS file format.

Re: decal feature

10-31-2002 10:15 PM in reply to: *Land, Brian
FYI - I created a block with 4 decals wrapped around sharp edges. I then
filleted a couple of the edges. The decals involved split in half as
expected. I then re-ordered the affected decals (dragged them down after
(below) the fillet in the browser) and they recreated perfectly around the
bends!!! If anyone would like to see it, I can place a copy of it up on CF.
