DA - Can't rename Content Library based details

Look at the attachment first. See how "Rename" is greyed out? So I have a
new Entrance Vestibule, and all the steel pieces have unique file names from
the existing one. I thought I could use DA to do this, so's my IDW's don't
lose it (else I'd be using iAssemblyTools). Well, it appears I'm screwed
because I based details on Content Library.

What's the trick? How do you change these filenames without calling IDW's
losing their reference? Guess I'll go back to iAssemblyTools and hope for
the best on my detail sheets.

And why can't you rename these files (with DA) in the first place.

I'm gonna take a wild shot guess and presume that DA hasn't changed since 8
either, but . . .could be wrong. 😉

BTW, I also tried it with Inventor closed to no avail.

John,

Content Center parts cannot be renamed through DA.
If I remember correctly there is a special flag set inside content files.
I don't know a way of getting rid of the flag other than by doing some
surgery on these files through the API.

Hi

use iAssembly tools to unlock the parts, then rename the attribute in iProperties that are used in partlist, lock the parts again this way you will not loose the reference to .iam or .idw

Negatory good buddy.
1) I tried to unlock them with iAssembly Tools but they were already
unlocked.
2) I need to literally change the filename, not some attribute.

Thanks anyhow.

Anybody know if there is a macro that somebody has created that will allow
the renaming of these parts?

Bob,

Can't rename Content Center parts with DA? Does this also count for custom
Content Center parts which have been saved in the Workspace?

Could you please elaborate the limitations?

Bob,
This is ridiculous and unacceptable to me. There is no other tool I know by
which I can copy and re-use a design incorporating Content Center parts that
have been used to make details. Here is another blind dead-end awaiting the
unsuspecting designer - months down the road after I decided the coast was
clear!!

Has this issue been resolved in IV10 or is this another nail in the coffin
for 10?

I might add that I used Content Center because I thought this was going to
be the fastest way. Now it turns out again that the makers of Content Center
never took into consideration the fact that designs are actually RE-USED in
the real world.

I ask again in all earnest concern: Has this issue been resolved in IV10 or
do I go back Steel Creator and/or Kent Keller's KwikShapes (I hope Autodesk
realizes that I'm torqued!!) ?????

Hi

If you copy files from CC to My library inside CC they will become r\w able(Do not do this if you are in a hurry, test it on a few files first....). I guess you then can change the file name(not sure) but you will have to do it manually (one by one)
There is an option inside CC to migrate\import old CC form IV8 and 9, maybe you after import also can copy this files to r\w My library area?? and the modify the filename.

I have not tried this but it would be nice if anyone have tried and could confirm if this is working or not.
Maybe I am hoping to much...... 😉

But Bob confirms that CC files cannot be renamed in DA.

The files are not in CC, they are in my project folder as details.

I'm sure if they had a way to do this, they would have chimed right in. So
hard to bear bad news when it's all ya got . . .

Thanks for the possibilities, but no matter what you do with the files,
they're still gonna have that crazy flag set inside of them. Just like how
they always insist on reverting they're part number back to the cryptic ANSI
L 2 x 2 x 1/4, instead of the detail number I assigned when I created them.
Makes you wonder if they actually try to do a trial job when they dream up
this stuff.

IV10, You can copy the library files to mylibrary then it will be in read/wright status then you can change all the details like part no, file name, material, and other parameters. I am using it, and no problem so far
