DA - blind??

ok - i brought up an assembly(welded)in DA. I use the find files button to look for included idw's... DA ends up showing nothing/empty "0 files found". However, I know there is an idw, i can see it sitting right there in the same dir as the assembly... ??? This is the first time this has happened... any ideas??

Did you highlight the files in the upper browser
first?

Yep. Finally got it to do what i needed it to do. But i seem to be spending more time on workarounds in IV than actually doing any work... BIGTIME... My kingdom to go back to Autocad.

OUT, Out d*&% spot. ...  There are times
when it's just a whole lot easier to go ahead and use Explorer to move, copy or
rename files then open in IV and reresolve to update the assemblies.  I
have gotten to the point where I selectively use DA, primarily assemblies of
about 15-20 unique parts or larger.

Starting to realise that also... my productivity has gone down the tubes since we switched to IV.

It will go back up.  Just resist the
AutoCAD/MDT comparisons.  It is a completely different application, as if
you had changed to SW or SE or UG or Pro.

That's normal when swithing from one design tool to another. The best thing to do is to go ahead an learn the ins and outs of the software and in time the differences don't start to bug you as much. I've gone through Autocad to MDT to IV to ProE and am about to dive into SWX. All programs have their issues but once you learn to work around their idiosyncrasies your productivity begins to increase.

Maybe it's just me but I have a hard time believing that someone can be more productive in a design project using 2D/3D Autocad than in a parametric solid modeler. My productivity suffers when I get thrown back into 2D Autocad.

When i have to stop desiging because i have to figure out why the heck it wont let me place the contraint i want... or losing all constraints when replacing parts... or trying to manipulate the DA to do what i want... or waiting 2 minutes for a constraint to decide weather it wants to work or kick me out... i really try to keep my mouth shut because i am aware of the benefits of parametrics (i did use MDT for 2 years as well). But i KNOW i can restructure a machine faster in ACAD 3d much faster than in IV - and i have been using IV for about 6months now... still havent seen the light... i'm all for advancing software and capabilites... but, sorry, i gotta get machines out the door and IV causes me to be here till 11pm continuously (as well as others in my dept)... we would NOT be in this situation had we stuck with ACAD. The world of 3d parametrics just aint there yet. (:

It would be interesting if somebody were to do the WC's with AutoCAD 3D. I
bet I know how it would turn out.

World Cup? As in the Inventor World Cup. I'm guessing.

WC - my guess would be World Challenge... it sounds like a interesting challenge... I dont think it would be pretty in Autocad.

I'm right again! 2 for 2 (see R6 NG on skeletal modeling). I'm having a pretty good morning so far. B-)
