cutting a part with a surface

I am using IV 2014 (but will have 2015 in a week-ish).

I attached the file in question.  The surface Composite1 is from a face of a large fiberglass furniture this aluminum will rest against.  The surface is not regular.

Is there a way to split the block along Composite1?  I want to keep the side that has the counterbores.  The material on the other side of the surface needs to be deleted.

Any suggstions/tips on how to do this?

Are you sure you attached the correct file? I don't see any surfaces.

Something like this?

(your surface does not completely cut through the solid)

That's it!

Thank you!

For wahtever reason, I could get sculpt to work when I tried.  I shall look into this more on Monday!

I just extended the surface and it worked fine. If you want to cut it at different faces you need to add more surfaces.

Hope this helps.

First you can go into the part environment from the assembly level. Using copy object you can copy faces and bodies from other parts in the assembly. The associative command should keep it linked to the parts you copied from.

Using the sculpt command you can use the surface as a cutting plane. Make sure that the surface extends all the way thru the part.

I hope this helps.
