Cut lengths for bent tubes

Hi Guys

I'm a newbie to this group but I've viewed it for a few years just not posted anything yet. I now have a slight problem which I'm sure you could help me with. How do you get the length of the swept part into the parts list as an straight unbent length. Everything we do is made from straight lengths of aluminum extrusions and getting the length value to the parts list is easy. But we are about to purchase a mandrel tube bender and I will now have to model tubes with one or more bends and I need the cut length in the parts list as the lengths and angles change.

Thanks in advance Carl

Hi Dennis

I am running into the same issue but the link provided doesn't appear to be active.

@DSilver4773, the post you replied to is 11 years old.  It shouldn't be a big surprise that a link that old doesn't work.

Normally I would suggest you start your own new thread to resolve your problem, since the existing post is so old the answers likely would be different today anyway.  However, in this case you might try this recent thread for some ideas on how you could deal with your situation.  They were originally talking about solid round bars, but the same techniques could be used for tubes.

Also, FYI, Dennis Jeffrey passed away in 2011, so he won't be replying.

Yes, unfortunately. He was a great contributor to the Inventor forum.
