Custom iProp from IAM to Sketched Symbol

I am trying to get a Custom iProperty from an IAM to a Sketched Symbol. I can select the iProperty when editing the symbol definition fine but when I insert the symbol into the IDW the symbol does not link to the iProperty. If I use a leader to connect to the assembly view it seems to burrow down to whatever part it touches and not the assembly itself. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Matt,

I've uploaded a video (Thickness in TB.wmv) to Dennis's FTP site here:
ftp.interlancentral.com
username: newsgroup password: Inventor1
(THANKS DENNIS)

I made this to illustrate how to get sheet metal thickness
parameter in the title block, but the concept is the same for your
application.

Hope that helps,

Thanks for the reply;

I followed the video several times and I could not repeat the end result. I can get the custom iproperties - drawing to show up in edit text but when i drop the assembly into the IDW - nothing. I even tried using a part file and it won't follow. Also what happens if you have multiple assemblies on a sheet? Will this still work?

On a side note, I noticed in the video you're using 2009. Any chance you can show a bit more around the GUI? I won't tell 😉

Hmmm, I just tried it again, and it seems to be working on my end.

Did the value get copied from model to drawing when you placed the view?
You can verify by looking at the drawing's iproperties after you place the
view.

Make sure you get a perfect string match on the name of the property.

Ahhh, I was hoping nobody would notice that 🙂
