Creating Centerlines in Inventor drawings

Hi all –

In the “front view’” of the attached file I have a centerline that defines the center of the arc of a slot. I created a sketch, and a small line segment, via the eyeball method, went into drawing mode and made my centerline. Is there a better and more accurate method?

Thanks,

Rick

In your model, place a Work Axis there. In your drawing, "Include" that work axis.

You didn't attached the support files for this drawing, but why not just use
the "Center-Line" tool in the drawing tools. You need to use the drop-down
box. Same icon as the "Hole-Center" but you need to click on the small
"down - triangle" to get to it. Then just select the inside legs for your
center-line.

Yes. Drawing Annotation panel, centerline bisector under the "Center Marks"
pulldown. Eyeball method....LOL

Hit "Skip" when prompted for his files. It will show you what he wants.

U-da-KING/QUEEN (sorry I don't know male or female). It does seem like a cheesy way to get there, but all CAD packages have their little "tricks" about them.

THANKS!!!!!

David -

I'm confused by my snide remark. So to avoid the problem in the future can you quote my snide remark. It is not my intent to "shoot the hand that feeds me". I do turn to this forum for help and want to continue to receive help by those that can.

The method of adding an axis works, but why doesn't autodesk just fix the issue and make the automated centerlines command recognize arcs?

I would be happy if I could just use the standard centerline tool, but I have yet to find a use for that tool. The bisector at least is usefull for adding centerlines in side views of holes, the other one serves no purpose that I can see. I also whishthey would allow you to edit the amount a centerline arc extends past the end of a curve. The centerline should not ectend past the point where an arc and a straight line intersect.
