Creating a new Template

Is there anything wrong with creating a new tempate this way:

1. Create a new model for a new client.

2. Create new drawing based on the standard template.

3. Bring in model views and create new title block, notes, symbols, etc. specific to new client.

4. Save drawing as a client specific template in my template directory.

5. Open new client template and erase all drawing views but leave notes, symbols, title block, etc.

6. Save.

The question is, doing it this way, will it cause problems?

Will the drawing views somehow still be linked to the template?

Should I erase the drawing views BEFORE saving as a template?

Is there a better way ti create a template?

Thanks kindly for your advice!

I don't think you will have any problems doing it this way. I have used a similar workflow when developing our company templates and have not had any problems.

If your a perfectionist and want a clean as possible template,  one added step can help.

Use the Drawing resource transfer wizard to pump the symbols, etc into a clean drawing and save that as your template.

Then your View naming conventions will always start with View1,  may help later if you employ ilogic, and want the first view generated to be View1, etc...

T.S.

Michael,

My thought is if you are going to delete the drawing views when you create new, why have them in your template at all?

That alone might cause you issues with linked files.
