Creating a catalog-

I am a new inventor user looking for help in designing a catalog of Parametric cabinets. I currently have a few models built. I have linked each to a single spread sheet that drives all of the parameters. From the spread sheet I can change the width, height and depth of each model and have an accurate BOM created.

I have not used iparts or imates and I have feeling that if I did, It would make the models simpler and more stable and also make it easier to create other models based on the original.

Before I go ahead and start copying and editing a thousand versions based on these, I would like to find someone to take a look and them and make some suggestions...

anyone out there interested?
Thanks
Richard

Post a few to CF and I'll be happy to take a
look.

Be aware that R6 currently has a bug in that the
spreadsheets won't update the models.

Custom Files, it's where you can load files.
Zip them up and try to keep it as small as possible...

CF is the customer files discussion group where
attachments are allowed autodesk.autocad.customer-files

I have posted the start of the catalog in the "CF" customer files area. If anyone is looking to design a kitchen... or any other cabinetry, they are welcome to them. You will need to add some muti- door cabinets. I can send them to you wehn the catalog is done.

It is currently only Frameless cabinets ( in our industry, cabients without a face frame) But I am also working on the Beaded and non- beaded versions.

If anyone else is currently working on a cabinet catalog, I would enjoy talking to you and colaborating.

Have a great day,

Richard

I see that some of the parts are adaptive.
You need to know that iParts cannot be adaptive so if you are going to go this
route then you'll have to get rid of adaptivity.

iParts are useful for a finite set of
variations.  If the drawers are always 6,7,8,9,10,12,14,16, and 18in (for
example) wide then this would be a good way to approach it.  If they can be
any infinite width then maybe it's not the best approach.  If only a few of
the dims change infinitely you can use iParts but use a custom parameters (which
allows you to enter the length or width etc..)

The nice thing about iParts is you can define the
iMates in them (you can in any part also) and then your assembly will go
together very quickly and you will have a library of "standard" parts you have
created.

The way you have it is nice also.  If all of
the parts are driven off this one spreadsheet you can VERY quickly create an
entire assembly just by changing a few values in the sheet.  I see you
mainly have values in this sheet.  Just keep in mind that you can do
calculations as well.  For example if you have a cabinet width of 10" and
you know the drawer width is always 1" less you can calculate this in the
sheet.  Furthermore you can add pulldowns or key cells that will change all
values of the sheet with one button (wouldn't apply to custom
sizes).

You can just copy this assembly using DA to a new
folder and then you'll have a new assembly to change for the next
project.

It looks like you have a good handle on this but
you may want to see my tutorial on Linked & Embedded Spreadsheets Part
Two.  It deals with this type of project.  It may spur some more
ideas.
