Create part to follow an inside contour

I have an irregular shaped part and I need to create a part inside and have it follow the inside contour with a thickness. How can I do this? I have both 2009 and 2011

Post your part file, and the desired offset.

I want an offset of .004 for the thickness

I offset a surface to .004" using the thicken/offset feature, then added a boundry patch to close the end, then I used the sculpt command to make it into a new solid.  This will be parametric to your original model.  You can use make components to create a new part file with this solid.

I hope this works for you.
