Crashing while opening STEP (IV 11)

Anybody has the same bad experience while opening STEP files?
It starts opening it and then hangs. While opening the STEP assy, it goes to a certain degree and then hangs.
Any input is welcome.
Thnx

How big is the STEP file? What is your machine configuration? It is possible you might be running out of memory.
There are a couple of things you could try. Turn on the 3GB switch (if you have 4 GB of RAM, and the machine hangs because memory runs out). There is also an option in the import dialog to save parts when an assembly is being imported.
I don't remember if these are available in Inventor R11, I am pretty sure they are in R12.

All sizes.
I noticed it first time when I tried to open STEP from McMaster (before it, there were no problems even with their files), but now I can't open any STEPs.
My performance is still OK (monitored it while trying to open files - no excessive memory consumption).
