Crashing on any Constraint

Suddenly, it wont let me do any more assembly constraint
within any constraint.
As soon the constraint are identified, mate or flush, the computer
hesitate for a second or two, then quit without any warning.
Am able to make parts, importing parts to an assembly
but unable to perform any assembly constraint.
I do have service pack 1 & 2 installed.
Any one have any idea what the problem is?

Thanks in advance

We have found problems with constraints stemming from several other issues
from inside the sub assemblies.

These are usually:
projected sketches that have seperated from the geometry.
Adaptive sketches that have unreferenced geometry.
Orphaned constraints( where are part has been deleted and an effected
constraint has not been automatically deleted).

Try using Rebuild all from the Tools menu. This should find the above
problems. Hunt them down and fix (delete) any problems or sketches. It
pays to find out where the sub assemblies are and open them individually as
Inventor can sometimes report a problem when none exists if the base
assembly is to large.

Once you can do a rebuild all without any errors you can try working on the
top level constraints.

What are your computer specs? Especially OS & video card.

Have had this happen a number of times. Try constraining something else and
then coming back to it. Or try to use different constraints to constrain
the same same objects. Save after each succesful constraint on that object.
All seems fine once you get through that object.

What about the template being to big for the screen space or the zoom all
icon not zooming and placing all of the template or the model in the middle
of the screen?

...i had that problem too a while back. your software has gotten corrupted.
repairing the installation will do nothing. this is what i did to fix
mine....are you sitting down? you have to completely uninstall inventor,
delete all the inventor registry entries, delete any folders that might have
been left behind during the uninstall, reboot, defrag, re-boot, re-install
inventor with all the service packs, re-boot. it's a pain in the butt but it
will work...

I still say trashing that ATI card will do you a world of good.

This summary comes from another unhappy customer,
uninstall, register clean up, defrag etc.
Looks like I have to do that.
Question: Have you also uninstalled MDT and AutoCAD?

Hoping someone out there have a simpler solution?

Thanks again.

Thanks to you all for the input.
Got it working again.
First tried to re-install the latest graphic driver, that did not work.
There after un-installed IV, deleted any directory pertaining to IV6
defrag the HD. Installed IV, SP1 & SP 2. Of course between SP
installation performed opening of IV and reboots.
That is, but still wondering what caused the corruption of IV.

Till next time.
