For some reason the cut isn't flattened properly. How can I do it right? (attached is the part)
Thanks!
Extrude as a surface body.
Trim.
Thicken.
what??:-)
is there no other simpler way to do this 45 degree cut? (for a standard matching welded part)
Can you elaborate? were these steps?(I.E 1,2,3)??
isn't there a way to do it in with a standard cutout?(and still flatten proprely...)
I remeber to have done it before but can't understand why it won't cut it the right way...across the bend.
Can't you simply add an edge chamfer?
I'm not at my Inventor copumputer rignt now - I'll show example later if someone else doesn't jump in here.
Maybe I'm miss something, but this is not an edge chamfer - it's a cutout all all the corner area...
I wish the software would let me just click and chamfer it though!:-)
If it were SolidWorks I think you can do it something like what you tried in Inventor, but in Inventor if it crosses the bend you have to do fancy footwork.
Amazing...agree about the S.W, because I almost sure I've done something like that.
Can you please show how to do it as you suggested?
Thanks!
Something like this?
Or this might be a bit easier.
Thanks JD! I was about to say "god have mercy" on your first option!!!:-)
What was that?It meant building the whole part as a surface?

I can provide many examples in both Inventor and SolidWorks where the best (only?) technique is to build as surface and then Thicken.
Hello.
Easy.
First Unfold
Do the cut
Refold
See the image attached...
The problem is when you do the cut in the folded model, you cut the sheet in angle...sometimes Inventor may experience some problems...like all other programs if you change the sheet thickness.
Cheers.

and Wrong!
Attach ipt file here instead of incorrect pictures.
Sorry JD, Talking about the process is Wright and easier than surfaces and cut bends in a folded model with fillets... i think so.
But your wright...the objective its a little bit different of the picture... ok, lets do some adjustment in the sketch...
File attach.
Compare the flat patterns and ask to the shop floor men wich he prefer... the world is perfect and all the people as laser machines to cut fancy forms...
But Wolf, JD is wright... somethimes we have to use surfaces for some sheet metal shapes. You have to practice that.
Cheers.
