Cool Inv Designers gadget

Just seen this in "Another" newsgroup and thought that most here would be as
impressed as I am. I would use that every day I am sure. Apparently there is
a version that will do metric and Inch too.

Way cool.

I use this one from Holo-Krome. It has all the info for SHCS, FHCS, BHCS,
SHSS, and SHSB and their holes. Yours looks like it has some more info.

Ah the old standby...

And to turn this into an IV related topic I think that IV needs something
like this built in. Built in to the hole command as a matter of fact. On
one tab (not 4)...

All the standard fastener and hardware related data in an easy to use and
reference electronic format.

Maybe that would be a good project...

A browser ActiveX object that mimics these cards.

Yeah ... but what would I do with my tape then? Now I use it to tape up the
brakes in my exceedingly brittle Starrett Dec. Eq. card that I got with my
first wooden machinist box?

ah, the good old starrett card. I have a few of them sitting on my desk. They make good coasters too

I think I may have heard you say that once or twice before . I sure
hope your squeaky wheel tactics get the job done. There are a lot of us who
would love to see this added to the core product. It would save a lot of
time on a daily basis. Of course that will probably be one of those things
that only a "Professional" machine designer would need right? For now I'll
just keep on truckin' with Drew's Standard Holes (thanks Drew).

And speaking of the hole tool, when using a countersunk hole, why do you
specify the diameter of the top of the tapered hole instead of the depth of
the countersink? I usually know what the height of the screw head is, and
if I could specify a depth, I would know how far below the surface the head
will be. By specifying diameter, you have to do the trig to figure out that
depth.

I've thought the same thing about the "CAD Card" that's out for AutoCAD.
Should be fairly easy to do compared to setting aside the time to do it
that is. 😉

Why not scan your card and sleeve, then make a sleeve.ipt with cutout
windows just like the real one, make a card.ipt, and apply the scans as
decals to the parts and assemble them. That would be a "CAD card"

Kent is reading but I am not sure I understand what you want to mimic. Maybe I don't
know exactly what these cards are, but it just looks like a chart to me?

It's a chart of the standard drill/c'bore/c'sink/tap drill/depth etc for all
fasteners. Right now Inventor does not have this data internally. I have to
check my Holo-chrome chart for every different fastener I use. I do use the
Holes utility now, but it kinda stinks that it's a separate program. Inventor
SHOULD have this data already in the Holes feature!

There's an idea! The motion could be driven from the parameters as well.
;-)

BTW, anyone else notice that shipping weight on those cards is 1/2
pound. Must me made of aluminum.

It's just a slide chart for fastener sizes.

If Ihad one of those cards, I'd try it just for fun.

The theory being you could access these numbers via the browser. I thought
it was a good idea at the time but realistically unless it plugged right
into the hole command I'd never use it...

Admittedly my hole size needs are somewhat limited, but my template has all the various
standard sizes I use already in the userparams.

thru4
thru6
cs8
cs8in
csang
fh632
cl440
etc.

I just plug those into the hole command. Very seldom use actual numbers. 8^)

I still think that having it all built into the hole dialog is looooong overdue.

amen..

with editable favorites so you can define a loose or tight fit on standard
sized screws...
